It was more about the depth of the Big 12. But adding computers isn't the answer that would solve this
Consider Sagarin. His analysis said the Big 12 was right on par with the B1G and quite a bit ahead of the ACC. So we definitely should have had more in, right?
Except his analysis also had BYU #29, behind multiple ACC and Big 12 teams. By his rankings, the bracket would have had Alabama and Ole Miss over Tennessee and SMU but otherwise the same participants and only ASU from the Big 12.
Or Massey Composite. That one loves the Big 12 also and had BYU higher than Sagarin...but still #18. Again, the only Big 12 team that would make it there would be Arizona (and only due to winning the CCG). If we used those ranks, the only difference in who qualifies for the postseason would be Alabama making it over SMU
Or simulated BCS rankings....BYU is #17 there and again out with ASU the only Big 12 participant. Alabama again makes it in over SMU, but it's otherwise the same.
Bottom line, I get that we're frustrated not making it ... But adding computers to the mix is pretty much just going to get teams like Alabama in over SMU, not help us
