I've gone back and forth between school and higher ed programs. We've gone from

good salaries to living like students again more than once. My happiness increased every time I made a change for better balance and more family time. Three years ago I had a good job but left for a surprise opportunity that provided even more family time but required a pay cut. Happiness for me comes when I have less money and more time.
