I joined a tech startup out of college, and put in 60-80 hour weeks consistently
I loved the company I was with, my colleagues, and the mission we worked towards. It was hard work, but I loved it. I stayed for over 12 years.

I was married, and had 2 kids at the time (eventually grew to 5 before I left). My wife took on A LOT at home, but because she knew what to expect and we communicated regarding my hours, etc, she was very supportive and our kids thrived. She was an absolute trooper.

We had time that was dedicated family time every night (1-2 hours), and after that time I’d go back to work (not always in office, usually from home). If you talk with my kids, you wouldn’t hear they felt I was absent during their younger years. In fact they’d probably say they miss the company I worked for 🙂

My advice, if you’re going to put that much time in, at least put the time into something you’re enjoying.

2 Nephi 9:51 says “… do not spend money for that which is of no worth, nor your labor for that which cannot satisfy.”. I personally believe this teaches us we should find satisfaction in our labors. We also know “men are that they might have joy”.

It is possible to put in a ton of hours, but still enjoy what you’re doing… you just need to find the right place.

That said, if you stick with it, I wish you the best of luck!
