We can simultaneously compare Fano to the Georgia DEs and further point to him being nowhere near a star, but that really doesn't make sense at all so I am not doing that.
Back to our rising star...
"Best defensive player a few springs ago" so we are talking about Spring Ball now? So, Fano is a star in the making and you point to his play in spring ball a few years ago, and 5 total college games? And Spring Ball with very little live action? Practice? We're talking about practice...football's version of a keyboard warrior?
This hole is getting deeper the more you double down on it.
Look I know you personally like the Fanos. You've got some attachment to them be it a personal relationship, family, friends, etc. Objectively speaking, there isn't a world out there where a guy with 5 total college games and 3 terrible ACL injuries is considered a star in the making.
You can't make an assessment like that off such a small sample size, and given his history and that of ACL injuries statistically the future doesn't look bright. Keenan Pili is a prime example of what typically happens after ACL injuries. A shell of himself in his full season back at BYU and had no meaningful time after he transferred. I hate that that happened to Keenan, before his knee injury he felt like the next great BYU LB headed for the NFL. Statistically, Fano is likely to never play a full season again than he is to become a star. He was great in High School, nobody can argue that. But that was a long time ago and his knees haven't proven they can handle D1 football.
