hand what happens when crime goes unpunished and criminals just set loose. City that has leadership from the mayor's office on down to the prosecutor's office that have taken the point-of-view that criminal justice reform means not arresting and punishing perps. Chicago is an awesome city, but it is not the same as it was pre-COVID and a large part of that is due to criminals not even getting a slap on the wrist.
People who commit crimes must be arrested and their crimes dealt with. Doing nothing, like Chicago, is worse for everyone than putting people in jail. If the only two options are jail or the Chicago way, then jail it is. However, if we really want to move forward as a society and truly reform the criminal justice system, we need to give judges and prosecutors better options and holding people accountable and demanding restitution, but also doing it in ways that can actually get better results than we currently get from the prison system.
