I think it's good to make a public example here to prevent it in the future but
I hope the charges eventually get dropped or downgraded quietly later. An 18 year old is an adult, but is definitely still young enough to do something stupid that he didn't think through. Would hate to see him carry a felony on the record, particularly since he turned himself in.
