People aren't magically and arbitrarily a "man" at age 18 just because the govt
decided that was a fair age to send our sons away to die in war. You can't buy alcohol nor cigarettes at 18. You can't rent a car... developmentally he's undoubtably closer to a 15 year old child than an adult. It's almost universally accepted that 25 yo is when the brain is fully developed in most people...
I think erring on the side of mercy is fair... give justice to Coach Allan via recompense, medical bills, and monetary damages for pain and suffering etc. Give the Gardner boy a fair and impartial accountability in the justice system followed by mercy of community service - and let's try to actually live our gospel beliefs and follow our Savior to forgive
