Great point re:coaches. I've seen coaches egos placed before players way too
times. Very rarely is it about developing individual players any more. Coaches want to look good, and it often comes at the expense of several kids who they don't give playing time to, or coaches play favorites with who they see as the best player, or play politics with parents; Then on the reverse, I've seen coaches at lower levels be really possessive of players and not encourage them to tryout for other teams - even the higher level teams within their own club...."That's my player." they don't want to lose the player that makes them look good even if its in the best interest of the player.
