I'm a high school soccer coach. We are mid-level 5a team in Utah. 100% of my
boys play club soccer. All but one of my JV players plays club soccer. The one player who does not is exceptionally athletic and plays club basketball. He was a freshman last year. I don't know if he will make the team next year because his technical ability and tactical decisions are just not up to par despite his high level athleticism.
So while it is not an absolute, your odds of making a high school team are MUCH higher if you play club soccer.
