In my world we did...those that exceeded expectations were given raises, more
responsibility, promotions, and had folks fighting to give them more opportunities.
Now a lot of times folks seem to just do their work and keep their heads down and hope nobody gives them more work to do.
Not always...but it does seem to be "how much can I get paid for as little work as I have to do?"
