I had the exact opposite experience when shopping for grad schools.
I had been accepted to four schools and visited them all. BYU was at the bottom of my list. One professor at my preferred school was a no show at the appointed time and place. I had traveled several hours so I was not happy about that at all. The professors at the other schools were professional but basically just answered questions. The BYU prof rolled out the red carpet, made a convincing pitch, and let me know he really wanted me to attend. Choosing BYU was an easy choice in the end.
