I think it's just that kids never really consider it until they are faced
With the options. I was always a BYU or bust guy too until my senior year, and then strongly considered other schools that were less academicly prestigious. It wasn't that BYU did a poor job, but that once I considered all factors I realized other universities also had merit. I ultimately decided on BYU, but was surprised that it was a difficult choice.
