This discussion is fascinating to me. Most here I assume are LDS and try to
live by the same teachings. However, the variation in the "deserved" punishment varies widely.

I have my own assumptions of empathy, justice and forgiveness as do each of you. But, we vary widely even though we listen to the same messages from our leaders, read the same religious books, etc.

Why do we vary so greatly, why is there such a spectrum of punishments called for?
