The fact it happens is gross. For many accidents, the amount the victim receives
is the full amount of all medical bills plus, lost wages, and other costs directly incurred as a result of the accident. Then there is the amount for "pain and suffering" which is usually 3-4 times the medical damages (at least for auto accidents, not sure if the same holds true for other types of personal injury cases). Lawyers will get 30% or so of the TOTAL amount they recover for the victim. This provides a bad incentive and there are lawyers out there who will push clients to go to doctors and clinics that they know will over proscribe treatments/therapies. This drives up the amount of medical costs and therefore the total amount of the final judgement, giving the lawyer more fees. That is crap and it makes me sick. It also costs ALL of us in higher insurance premiums and it is completely unethical, at least in my opinion.

Some lawyers suggest this out of true concern for clients as many times clients will say they are fine, settle a case, and then a few weeks later the longer-term impacts of an accident are still manifest but the client has no claim on the person who injured them. This is legitimate, but not always easy to discern between the two.

The post may make you sick, but the fact that it happens, and happens a fair amount is what should really make you sick. I don't think the poster is implying that is what the cheer coach is doing, but is simply stating that if it is recommended by a lawyer and not a doctor, these extra therapies and what not are nothing more than a legal scam to get the lawyer a bigger payday.
