and the impacts on them. The others are identifying with the perpetrator - see themselves or their children in him. People are not as objective as we think we are. We are all biased in one way or another.
Also, some are looking at the real and imagined impacts on the individual (the perpetrator) while others are looking at the real and imagined impact on society. All of these factors are important but it is impossible to balance all of these as mortals, so we have to prioritise some things over others; and that is why we have such different views.
