I don't have time to dig into the Saban history, but the other 2 are widely known. Both were average head coaches (I would say a little better than Kalani, given the conferences in which they worked, but whatever). And both went to work with and learn from the mighty Nick Saban, and then became what they are today. What has Kalani done that is expected to help him take the next step like those guys took? You implied that he can take the gigantic step that they took - what's going to make that possible? You can point to the hire of Jay Hill, but that's not what made the difference in your examples. And if Jay Hill is everything we think he is, then he won't be long for BYU, especially if he's not going to replace Kalani.
I like Kalani as a person and appreciate his passion for the university and how he represents the school and its sponsoring church. But you've got to admit that the trajectory isn't good. Eight years is generally a long enough time at one place to see what you've got. And the comparisons you made to 2 successful coaches isn't quite as apples to apples as you imply. Show me the Nick Saban that Kalani is learning from, and we can have that discussion. For that matter, one can even argue that Kalani had his "Nick Saban time" by working under Kyle Whittingham (who, like it or not, is a very good football coach). And how did that help Kalani?
