The difference is that those countries got hit hard and fast, early with the virus and likely reached herd immunity already, which can be reached at as low as 20% due to crossover T-Cell immunity. America got hit later and likely flattened our curve and made it so that our infections, etc... didn't really hit hard until we opened up the economy and 27 million people started protesting in the street. There is no way to completely get rid of Covid through shutdowns as even countries that reached zero Covid infections like New Zealand are now having outbreaks once they open back up again. The only solution to Covid is either herd immunity, or a vaccine.
