...but I do know it surprised me when they were talking about the BYU HC job on the radio a year or so ago. If you believe him, the guest they had on and were interviewing (I don't remember who it was, sorry) said that he'd spoken with several coaches who were either current coaches at the FCS level or were coordinators at the FBS level - and all told him that they were not interested in the BYU job if it were to come open.
He said they basically indicated that if they were good enough to get an offer at BYU, there would be other offers coming from other schools as well. And BYU was a tough, tough job. There are barriers (not being in P5, missionaries, Sunday limitations, view of a combination of micromanagement and lack of support from LDS admin, low pay for assistants, and super high expectations of fans) without the benefits needed to overcome them. He just said BYU is a tough sell, unless someone wants to be there for reasons outside of football.
It was surprising to me. I'm not sure I believe it entirely. But if that is what coaches are telling him - then it's what THEY believe. And that is what's important, I guess. I wouldn't take a job if it seemed like expectations were super high for me to achieve but I believed there were too many barriers for me to have the level of success expected.
Just something to think about.
