Actually, there were message boards before Cougarboard. Among the comments was whether the game had passed Lavell by. At the same time, Penn State Fans were wondering if it was time for Paterno to retire.
However, there is a big difference between Lavell and Bronco. Lavell made something out of nothing. Bronco had a 60K stadium, large fan base, history of success, and athletes that grew up wanting to play football at BYU even if they had to walk-on. Even with the Crowton years, that is a much larger set of structural advantages. BYU teams have been trending down since Max Hall graduated.

Comparing Bronco to Lavell drives me nuts. Lavell built the program, won a NC and had some fantastic seasons.

Again, Lavell had taken the program from nothing to a NC team. He earned the patience. Bronco has not.
