and let me enlighten you
I think as homers we overstate how much BYU dominated the WAC.
1979, 1983, and 1984 were the only years in the 10 year string of conference championships that BYU was undefeated in the conference.
1985, 1982, 1977, 1976 BYU tied for the conf. championship. And going by just losses it was a shared title in 1981 (Hawaii played two fewer conf. games and was 5-1 as opposed to 7-1 for BYU).
Speaking of 1981, BYU had to beat an undefeated Hawaii and 8-2 Utah in the final two weeks of the season to win the conference championship.

Comparing Bronco to Lavell drives me nuts. Lavell built the program, won a NC and had some fantastic seasons.

Again, Lavell had taken the program from nothing to a NC team. He earned the patience. Bronco has not.
