Jake got us to 11-2 with some amazing throws and runs. He had a great year.
Jake is also his own worst enemy at times.
Every pick tonight (including Bohannon's) featured a moment of decision with a split-second chance to do something else. I think a lot of people who haven't played sports don't realize how fast the decision happens. You don't have time to see and process everything a viewer sees, and you given the same point of view. There are a lot of big dudes in the way.
He instinctively threw the shovel pass, but there were 2 defenders in the way.
He was wrong-footed and under pressure, and late, looking at the middle of the endzone, forced it into double coverage and got picked.
He has a great arm, but that across the field pass to the end zone on the 2 point conversion, was high difficulty, and he was reacting late.
And we all remember the OU pick 6 and the two Fade picks against Utah and Kansas.
At the same time, Jake's made special plays with those same instincts. There's a fine line between brilliance and mistake-prone here - and if he's able to refine that, he could be pretty special, but we see the high risk choices both bless and burn the offense, more bless than burn honestly. I think there's a really good shot he matures and gets better at reading the situation and managing risks.
This is an 11 man offense. Offsides, wrong routes, missed blocks, missed run reads - it's not all Jake. We should celebrate what a great year this was.
