A ton of factors to consider
For a young family just starting out, and still looking to get into a home, that may be a good estimate. My kids are grown, but when they were young (we are a family of 5), cost of living was much different. I do know plenty of young families now (we are in Utah) that seem to do just fine on less than that. I guess we all have different definitions of "need."

Moving to San Diego county soon (north end). Looking at homes for $900 that were $500 6 years ago. 😞

Yeah, not ideal but rates will fall in time and prices on good homes 10 min from the beach will rise.

Because markets won't sustain these rates long term. Optimism for rate cuts is holding things together right now.

If only they’d stop buying expensive iPhones and save a little. My generation got by just fine that way.
