I think there is a lot more “bang for your buck” in basketball. You could make a

Legit run in the tournament with 3-4 high end players. If you can pony up to get them it may cost 2-10 M total. Whereas, in football you’re going to need two to three times as many high end players and still might not even make a run at the Big 12 title.
