Every single negative Kalani post I have seen on the front page starts with the OP defending KS. I don't want to talk about it. I know he is the coach of the rest of the year, and Id rather spend my time and energy reading about exciting things happening in basketball.
But since you defenders keep bringing it up, I will say this.
1. BYU has been mostly a good to great team for almost forty years. So, when we have down years and they are reasonably attributable to a lack of effort from the coaching staff, it bothers us.
2. KS has given us a few good years, but by far his best years aligned perfectly with COVID and Grimes, which tends to make us believe that at least some of that success may have been externally created.
3. BYU regularly losses at least a few very winnable games each year by what appears to be lack of effort or lack of depth (bad recruiting).
4. His recruiting only seems successful in the few years something big happens (e.g. Hill being hired/entering Big 12, news of us getting a Big 12 invite, the year he was hired). All the other years, his recruiting is mostly worse than or equal to (but mostly worse than) Bronco's.
5. His defense has never looked good for more than a game or two.
6. He was hired because of his defensive coaching background and his allegedly good recruiting skills. However, as mentioned both of those are areas of concern for us.
Hope we turn the ship around with a new OL coach, but it seems weird that we put so much emphasis on who his position coaches are. I know how much everyone here hates Utah's coach, but it doesn't matter who his defensive coordinator is, their defense is always very good, and team effort always seems high. KS seems to only be as good as his coordinators. At which point, people start to wonder why he is the head coach.
