As a teacher, I'm 199% on board with getting rid of tenure. Get rid of tenure
and you get rid of the teachers who "mail it in". Also, as a teacher, here's a few things that need to be addressed, in addition to bad teachers:

1) Cell phones: It is very frustrating that kids are allowed virtually unfettered access to their cell phones during school. They are a total distraction. (I don't even want to get into the helicopter parents on the east-side of Salt Lake County who claim their children NEED their phones at all times and in all places...)
2) Grading (look up Proficiency Based Grading): The grading system (which teachers have virtually no control over) sucks and promotes procrastination and laziness.
3) Attendance: In the good old days, a student who had 7 absences (of any kind) was referred to truancy court here in Utah. And, in my district, once a student had too many tardies (I teach high school), the students got fined $2 for each tardy. All of that got thrown out the window 10+ years ago and there is virtually no reason for kids to show up to school. The worst thing that can happen to a student now is they won't "walk" at graduation because of a bad cumulative citizenship grade average.
4) Discipline problems: The administration (from the highest levels down) are so into the woke mindset of "we can't punish little Johnny for his bad behavior" that teachers no longer have any tools in their arsenal to enforce proper behavior. Students literally have to assault someone to get suspended nowadays.

Honestly, it's a wonder there are still teachers that are willing to do this job. I guess there are people, like me, who are crazy.
