My teaching salary was $19,200 and for coaching football it broke down to $1.27 an hour. I had to coach, drive kids to and from games that were usually on Saturdays due to the distance. I had to wash and provide towels for both teams (conference rules), feed the teams before all home games, and after the games for all away games. In addition I was watching film, completing stats, game planning, and trying to keep kids eligible to play every week.
I also had to do all of my own maintenance for my welding and wood shops and manage the computer lab and software deployments.
Then I had to prep curriculum and teach. Rarely was there a week where I worked less than 70 hours.
I miss the kids and coaching. I don't miss the rest.
