This is inflated by a pretty weak independent schedule and even more so by a putrid Covid year. Plus, .500 isn’t exactly setting the world on fire.


“We’ve only had 2 losing seasons in the 8 years he’s been at the helm.”
See above. Last year is the only year he should have had a losing season.

“Not many coaches that were hired the same year he was are still around.”
So? This doesn’t mean he’s good or bad. It just means BYU hasn’t fired him or he hasn’t gone to a better school. There’s lots of room between those two.

“He’s a BYU grad and understands the culture.”
Cool.


“A lot of teams struggle moving into a power conference. Just look at Utah and TCU.”
He’s been mediocre for more than just his first year in the Big 12.

“We were arguably 2-3 plays away from going 7-5 last year.”
Inarguably he was 5-7.

“Maybe people need to chill out a bit?”
He doesn’t deserve to be fired. But he held on to his friend for way too long, which resulted in some pretty disappointing seasons. This especially hurts since we had a good offense during those years. He had the luxury of playing bad schedules and still hasn’t done anything particularly noteworthy.

And still, after 8 years, we don’t have a legit identity under Kalani. It was clear what Bronco was trying to do. I still have no idea what Kalani is trying to build here. There’s really not a solid direction. That’s extremely frustrating and unappealing to recruits (which is probably why we don’t have a QB).
