APPEARANCE IS EVERYTHING!!!!!
You would NEVER walk into an interview without wearing a suit. Even if it was for a job shoveling manure.
I work for a large investment bank here in LA, and how you look and what you wear is the most important part of the job. Personal grooming and appearance are of the utmost importance. A suit is the uniform for the business world. The most expensive part of my business is my clothing. I wear custom bespoken suits, shirts, and ties because I am 6'5'' 275lbs and can't shop off the rack. I wear hand made leather shoes which are shined before wearing them and shined after wearing them. When they start to show signs of wear they are sent off to be resoled and refinished. Good shoes will last a lifetime. There is nothing worse than seeing someone who has never shinned their shoes. Especially on Sundays at church. It makes me want to scream.
I know exactly which type of BYU kid you are talking about. He did summer sales and knows the Romney family. The kid had no clue as to what he was getting himself into. You show up in a Stafford suit and a pair of dirty Dr. Martens, you aren't even going to get through the door.
For those of you who want a tailored suit for under $400 check out indochino.com. I wear these to church so if my kids spill on them no big deal.
