And I wasn't...and I regret it!
My advice to students who reach out to me is that they learn what engineering is (I thought it was just driving trains when I started at the Y). If that is really interesting to them, I encourage them to follow it. If it doesn't, I tell them to go to Economics.
I survived a double major in two fluffy fields, but could have skipped ahead a few years professionally if someone had given me that advice.
