and there is a way to do it wrong. By talking about it over-zealously, it becomes a turnoff and sounds preachy.
I.E. I served in a foreign country. So, I would bring up experience in an international culture and the ability to adapt and thrive in a new/foreign environment. I would mention my learning and mastering a foreign language, and organizing and operating projects like English classes.
I don't think I would make mention of my missionary service/religion, accept to state that was the reason for me being in a foreign country after high school.
