I can agree with that, but did he explain
more than what you stated why he said it was absurd? Because depending on the situation, it is absurd... I'm guessing this kid's situation qualifies as being absurd for him currently, now if he would have said If I get the job the first hing I will do is buy a nicer suit ,because THEN I can afford it, that would be different.
