What school did he graduate from?
Many sources should have prepared this person better for this interview and life in the business world: Professors, roomates, parents, wife or girlfriend, siblings, friends, and yes church leaders and mission leaders.
It looks like either all of those sources failed to point out obvious things to this kid, or more likely the problem lies with him just not being able to take sound advice (as shown during the interview).
I don't think his like of tact is a Mormon thing.
No church leader would take this guys side on any of the things you brought up.
