That happens...but that's a different sort of investment than paying a player to go to a certain school


This is more of a hedge fund investment than a fan investment. It's a "we think you're really good and will earn us out money back, so will invest up front"

It's different than, somewhat adjacent to, paying a player to go to a certain school. There's no reason a recruit couldn't do both.

In the Dybantsa example, he could take $6.5M today in return for a 15% cut of his rookie deal, through BLA (or other player investment companies), unaffiliated with any school.

And then he could ALSO take $8M to go play for school X. There's zero reason for him to give up the money associated with school choice when he can get the up-front 'insurance' type money elsewhere without giving up that bargaining chip.

If anything, that company probably wants him to go to a school with a strong track record and good media base
