Agree Coach Clark shouldn’t have been fired, wish I believed your other points
were true. If your logic that the boss does the firing and takes all accountability was true, why was it Kalani’s job to fire him and not Tom Holmoe’s or Shane Rees’ job? For that matter shouldn’t it be Clark Gilbert or Russell M. Nelson’s job? The point is that this is a Church institution and if/when it doesn’t fit the mission of the Church, it will not just change, it risks being unceremoniously discontinued. That’s ultimately the fine line Kalani walks.

Which, by the way, does call into question the practice of “firing” people in the first place. Short of egregious performance shortcomings, and bad behavior in the workplace, I think the Church as an employer is generally loathe to ever fire people. Clearly that wasn’t evidently the case to any of us with Coach Clark. So maybe football/sports have their own rules? Dunno, but I know the head coach is held to the highest standards of any of them, and has to be approved by “Salt Lake,” where the criteria has very little to do with Ws and Ls.
