My sister-in-law may be in the minority, but she and her husband have
a pit-bull. They are successful in their work endeavors and very invested in their dog. As a result she is incredibly well trained.

All that said, I still don't trust the dog much, but it is not a reflection on the owners, but the breed. When most other breeds bite, the bite is quick, even if strong and painful. Generally, when a pit bites, it doesn't let go and frequently causes extreme injury - even death.
