I just left a company I was at for 14 months.
Before that I was working hybrid 3 at work 2 at home.

The company would not budge on working on site. Why? Because they wanted to squeeze every last bit of life out of me.

I worked outrageous hours. I sacrificed prime time with my teenagers. I developed a massive financial allocation model for them to automate the budget allocation process. They gave me no support, no back up, and no recognition of the sacrifice it took to build.

This month, they were planning to overextend my bandwidth again in deploying it again. I saw the writing on the wall a few months ago and got out.

I put in my notice. They asked me to work overtime to transition to a new person and to consider extending my notice period to prevent them from falling off the cliff into the void I'd leave in my wake.

I agreed if they would pay me for Labor Day (the day after my notice period ended).

They refused.

I let them fall off the cliff.

If companies want to treat employees like they are a piece of property. They have to also own the consequences of it.
