should handle changes to his staff himself. I would never want my boss to handle my business for me. As long as ARod is the OC, it’s his job to make the changes to his staff, and likely made the calls proactively and handled the meetings himself.
You could read Kalani instructing him to do it as, “okay, Arod, if we are going to move on from him, let’s give him as much time heading into bowl coach recruiting season as possible so he can be out there and available to all the teams looking for new coaches.” I guarantee if Coach Clark is as loyal and beloved as he seems to be, that Kalani is heartbroken to see him go through this. Remember: Kalani’s #1 qualification for having and keeping this job is that he understands the bigger mission(see Moses 1:39). That’s why Coach is untouchable.
