But then you look at FPI and see that Indiana is #10 and that argument quickly falls apart.

BYU was 49th in ESPN’s 2024 recruiting ranking, Indiana was 56th. BYU was 5-7 in 2023, Indiana was 3-9.

And yet despite that, Indiana blitzkrieged its schedule, and BYU had nail biters against teams like Utah and Oklahoma State and a ton more 1 score games.

At the end of the day, there’s lots of inputs, but they are mostly an efficiency model and BYU’s record over performed its efficiency metrics.
