Not really. In the current NFL playoff format, only the top seed gets a bye, in
each conference.
Unless you’re referring to the re-seeding. The NFL does re-seed after the first round, but since their seeding isn’t directly based on which is the best team or who has the best record in the conference, you still get uneven matchups sometimes. For example, this year either the Lions or Vikings will be the #1 seed in the NFC, and the other team will be the #5 seed. So even with re-seeding, those two teams could meet before the NFC championship game, even though they are the two best teams in the conference.
