Does changing jobs scare you?
I’ve been with the same company since I finished school. I’ve gotten pretty good at what I do and am well respected in that organization. The problem is that I don’t see a lot of upward promotion from here on out and am only getting rewarded with more work for having done good work.

So now along has come another company that is heavily recruiting me and offering me a fantastic opportunity to help build a new branch and get paid well for it.

It seems like a no brainer to jump ship. But I’m dragging my feet. I think I’m scared. My current job is comfortable, very secure, and familiar. It supports my family and I know it has a pretty good work life balance. If I was a brand new professional I’d jump on this new opportunity. But in mid life with a family depending on me I think I’m scared of the change but don’t know exactly why. Scared of it not working out and being out of a job. Scared that the added stress of starting something new will impact me and my family. Just anxious I guess.

So, I’m seeking advice from CB. Are my fears irrational? Are they worth heeding? Have others regretted a career move, or conversely regretted not moving? I’m looking for a little advice and/or affirmation. 🤷‍♂️

TIA
