I respectfuly dissagree. Things I love about our atmosphere...

While it is absolutely clear that BYU is not like other big time programs in terms of atmosphere, I don't agree that that is automatically a knock on our "atmosphere." Are there things that could be improved to enhance the experience? Absolutely. Is it a little quirky? Sure. But I am not as quick to desire aligning our atmosphere with other major programs as many on here seem to be. I've been to some great raucous games at RES. I've been to some of the major PAC 12 venues and marvled at the passion. I get it. I really do. But I don't necessarily think we should overlook what an amazing place we already have.

Why I love the atmosphere at LES:

  1. Opening prayer. Every time I go to a BYU sporting event and they begin with an opening prayer, I am subtly reminded by how special and unique our players, coaches and fans are. I love it!
  2. Clean. I get that people long for the wild, rabid, frenzied, (drunken), crowd. it is fun. I've been to stadiums like that and had a blast! That said, I love the opportunity to take my sons to the football games and (generally) not have to worry about whether it is the right environment for us to be spending time.
  3. The people. We have season tickets that are in an okay spot. We have had opportunities to upgrade, but since we enjoy the people around us, we have elected not to move and probably won’t any time soon.
  4. Location. The view of the mountains is unbeatable. Every time we are on TV (which fortunately has been pretty often lately) the commentators inevitably comment on the beautiful setting.

I think BYU could do a lot to continue improving on things, and I hope they do. Consolidating the student section was huge! It improved the passion in the stadium noticeably. I understand the fans on here who want the more traditional experience, but those venues exist all over the place. All I’m saying is that we should appreciate what we have.
