But I covered the PAC10 a total of six seasons during my career, and attended MANY games in most venues as a fan. I have also been to most venues in the old WAC/MWC and many of the Big Sky places. My list:
1 - Autzen Stadium (absolutely deafening and crazy, electric atmosphere. Crowd creates the illusion of a 100K seat stadium)
2 - L.A. Colly (when SC is having a great season and it is packed, between the band, the Song Girls and Traveller galloping around the field with the trojan guy riding, it is pretty amazing. Even for laid-back SoCal)
3 - ASU Sun Devil Stadium (the OLD one, Frank Kush era)
4 - Husky Stadium (can get REALLY loud, and when the fans get going the upper decks shake, and the backdrop of Lake Washington is 2nd only to Y mountain as far as an incredible setting)
5 - Holt Arena - Idaho State (j/k)
I love LES and feel a ton of pride when visiting players, coaches & media see it for the first time and fawn over it. I guess I agree with the theories that the sober crowd, coupled with the fact that many of the younger students are there for the social aspect and kind of oblivious to what is happening on the field, combine to make it less intimidating than many venues. I think the ROC and BYU Athletic Marketing are doing a GREAT job of working to change the culture, and it shows, but it is going to be a work-in-progress for a while.
