The actual sequence of events is important to understand, because it explains the request, the phone call and more.

The same day, but before the email, someone named dlucy44 posts on CB about what happened. Shortly thereafter 'Darren Lucy' send an email with no photos making a claim that he has information about indiscretions with Spencer Hadley including claims of some major NCAA violations from booster perks and more.

She follows up with him basically saying, "Give me proof or it didn't happen." He then sends her the photo (which by the way has been cropped the original photo sent is actually a photo of what appears to be someone else's phone or tablet - how is that for a wrinkle).

Immediately after getting the photo, she CALLS BYU compliance offices which we can only assume means that she explained the email to them. In theory BYU could have said, "We aren't interested" "Tell him to contact us directly" or more probable, "Can you forward it to me..." which she does. The call is interesting to me because considering how easy it is to just forward an email, if I am going to give someone an opportunity to act 'off the record' it would be with a phone call.

What we do know about the email is the IP traces to Las Vegas. Nobody seems to be able to find a Darren Lucy who lives in Las Vegas.

It should also be noted that 'Darren Lucy' tried to contact a number of other outlets including UF.n, and his account he set up at UF.n also has an IP that traces back to Las Vegas.

With those facts in mind the most plausible explanation thus far really is the one posted here earlier that this most likely has to do with a jealous boyfriend seeking revenge.
