A true story meant to inspire and uplift. A contrast to the garbage heap that is college football. He couldn't have said less about the university of Utah without not mentioning them altogether yet Ute fans have still managed to make it all about them. His story was not Darren Lucy...Darren Lucy was the catalyst of this story, and regardless of who he is or what, if any team he/she supports....that person is the worst person in the room. BYU, because it is a special place and it is run by truely special people who have been committed to what BYU is supposed to stand for since they came to this school...(Including Tom Holmoe here) This special story happened. And because Mr. Benedict happened to be here the world heard about it.
Local Utah media is desensitized to how great BYU is, and worse, scared to say something positive about BYU for fear of the ridiculous oversensitive Utah fans (who cry about Collie using the word Magic, or Max Hall actually being real about his experience in the rivalry...which Benedicts article seems to confirm on some level) and their backlash demonstrated by this week.
I honestly believe that BYU is so commonplace around here and the dissenting and LOUD (maybe even the minority) of Utah fans are so starved for attention (a couple of media members fall into this category) that if they had been on that bus and witnessed what was witnessed, they would shug their shoulders and say something like Spence Checketts did....and ask why Spencer is representing BYU when he is being disciplined....and miss the lead entirely. The media don't understand that not only does byu not trust them, but they know for a fact that they will be slandered.
I respect BYU, I will pay for the education of my kids if they go there. Other schools are negotiable, but I will support any of my kids if they can go to BYU. Thank Bronco, KVN, Spencer Hadley, Brandon Davies, and all the other athletes who quietly live the Honor Code for that.
