Insert whatever team you want in place of BYU. It’s a hypothetical scenario.

It would result in that team having a very impressive and respectable win not being considered in the criteria for championship game tie breaking between two or more teams with nearly identical in-conference resumes. You want to put your best foot forward. I want the best teams representing the conference. I don’t think the current procedure did that this year.

I could see going SOR overall but just non conf makes no sense in determining a conf title. Maybe by CFP rank?
