Middle managers value the time. They need to show that they are busy themselves
and a lot of older middle managers couldn’t adjust to managing in the WFH space so they prefer being able to micro manage their employees in an office.
Stories like the OP where an employee was working multiple jobs are then told like they are the norm to justify their existence.
