Dates to 1,400 BC which means that Moses literally might have laid eyes on it.
It was already ancient when the Romans, circa 20 BC, added the lobsters / crabs to the base of it.
Then someone (Pierpont Morgan?) bought it and had it hauled to NYC. So now it's sitting right there - an object that Moses very realistically might have seen with his own eyes, just chilling on the UES.
It's also right back of the Met which is amazing, but probably not great for younger kids.
