It's interesting, sometimes depressing to observe how a minority religion with a
regional majority, creates societal/religious distortions in culture, customs, attitudes.

Like many others here, I only lived in Utah while at BYU, raised in California, adult life in Virginia. Out in the 'mission field', people generally appreciate LDS neighbors and colleagues and while most are oblivious, some people, those without LDS friends can be a little bit bigoted.

Then go to Zion and have to deal with all this tension and animosity - it's disorienting.

I won't get into the problem of finding oneself in a place with a heavy LDS majority, where being LDS isn't special and gets taken for granted; or places where domination is starting to thin (like Utah County) where the local faithful can get a little fanatical.

Fascinating but kinda sad.

Would make an interesting book.
