Nothing magic to say that I know of to make it all better, but I feel ya
my son is an excellent soccer player, only 10 right now, but had a couple bad tryouts this year that he's learning a hard lesson from. Didn't make the teams he wanted, but I think he's working hard right now as a result of the disappointment.
Maybe tell him the story of Jordan getting cut by his HS basketball coach sophomore year only to be an all state selection the very next year?
