If you are not getting an iPhone then either option is good.
of those two options I'd lean to the Pixel phone since it doesn't come with Samsung bloatware.
If others in your family have Samsung devices I'd go with Samsung.
On the plus side, Apply is updating it's text/messages to work better with Google Messages so that green/blue color texts will no longer be an issue once it's rolled out.
I have a Samsung phone and have been considering moving to Pixel with my next phone, but will probably stay with Samsung since I like the Stylus which comes with their Galaxy Ultra phone.
